About Katie Severance

Katie Severance has been a full time
Realtor in the Montclair and Essex
County, New Jersey area for 10 years.
She has successfully listed and sold
well over $60 million in real estate.
She is also the co-author of “The
Complete Idiot’s Guide to Selling Your
Home” (Penguin, January 2010). She is a
member of the West Essex Board of
Realtors and one of a select group of
Realtors in the United States with the
National Luxury Home Marketing
designation and its Million Dollar

Ms. Severance was born and raised in Montclair.
She attended Montclair public schools, graduating
form Montclair High School, and has a son in the
school system now. She graduated from Fairfield
University in Connecticut with a Bachelor of Arts
Degree in Political Science. Before getting into
real estate, she spent 16 years as a television
producer, and won an Emmy Award.
The Complete Idiot’s Guide to Selling Your Home
Katie Severance was chosen by Penguin to
co-author the book from a national pool of realtor
candidates. The theme of the book is how to sell
your home anywhere, anytime and in any kind of
market. It is a comprehensive guide covering
everything from the decision to sell all the way to
the closing table. Some of the specific chapters
include pricing your home, staging, renovations that
make you money when you sell, how to find and
attract buyers, the psychology of buyers and their
behavior patterns in both up and down markets, how
to negotiate and respond to lowball offers,
calculating profit, managing the deal to closing as
